Anaergia Technologies will manage the procurement of organic waste and operation of a new food waste receiving station to expand biogas production under the current digester retrofit project. The project will support organic waste diversion compliance under the California landfill diversion law, SB 1383, and is supported in part by a grant from CalRecycle.

The anaerobic digester project will enhance generation of renewable energy from wastewater and organic wastes while supporting local communities recycle their organic waste. It will recover value from these waste streams by utilizing a series of Anaergia's technologically advanced solutions being delivered under a contract announced in June 2023. The upgraded facility is expected to receive as much as 50,000 tons per year of organic waste. Moving forward, M1W plans to optimize the increase in biogas production by generating up to 100,000 million BTUs per year of renewable natural gas.

This is Anaergia's ninth operations and maintenance contract in the United States, and Anaergia is now the largest operator of digestion and co-digestion infrastructure in California. These expanded services activities, which are expected to generate more than C$3 million in revenues, are in line with Anaergia's capital light strategy to ensure long-term revenues and leverage unique capabilities as a key partner to wastewater utilities.

“M1W is pursuing sustainable, long-term solutions by utilizing advanced technologies to convert waste streams into sources of renewable energy,” said Paul Sciuto, Executive Officer of M1W. “We are pleased to continue this partnership with Anaergia and maximize the benefit to our community through solutions that are both innovative and reliable,” added Sciuto.

“This long-term agreement with M1W leverages Anaergia's expertise in organic waste and wastewater co-digestion with renewable energy generation and extends the services Anaergia is providing to this biogas plant owner,” said Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia.
