ORE Catapult takes ownership of UK Wave and Tidal Knowledge Network

ORE Catapult is building a technical expertise and industry knowledge centre for the UK offshore renewable energy sector and has committed itself to a three-year plan to continue to host and further develop the Wave and Tidal Knowledge Network (WTKN). The network was previously owned and developed by the Crown Estate in line with its strategic objective to support growth of the wave and tidal industry and in partnership with the Department of Energy and Climate Change.. ORE Catapult intends to further develop the network’s functionality.

WTKN facilitates the exchange of data in the emerging wave and tidal energy industry, containing many resources on a range of relevant topics, including reports and datasets that can be downloaded for free. It also contains links to information held by other organisations which may be available on a commercial basis.

Both ORE Catapult and The Crown Estate are engaged in supporting the growth of the wave and the tidal energy industries within the UK and WTKN is seen as a key part of this strategy. Although the network is now owned by ORE Catapult, The Crown Estate will continue to support it as part of an Industry Steering Group.

ORE Catapult was established by the Technology Strategy Board for the identification, development and rapid commercialisation of innovative technology to deliver affordable, offshore renewable energy. The centre works in collaboration with policy makers, industry large and small, utilities, owners and the UK's research organisations and provides access for SMEs and new technologies whilst driving greater efficiency in the offshore wind, wave and tidal industries.
