The Eneco Luchterduinen contract will see Tekmar supply its cable protection systems to Van Oord, the company responsible for the construction of the project which is located about 23 kilometers from the Dutch coast in the North Sea. It is the third contract awarded to Tekmar by Van Oord. The company was involved with the project at an earlier stage by supporting the design of the J-tubes for the offshore high voltage substation and cable entry interface on the foundations.
Tekmar will also provide support during the project’s start-up and will work with NKT Cables and LS Cable in order to supply a total of 87 cable protection systems including seven bellmouths - six for the array cables and one for the export cable. The company will provide full engineering to protect the cables for their full 25-year service life.
The award win was described by James Ritchie, chief executive officer at Tekmar, as a demonstration of the company’s reputation for delivering high-value solutions.
Tekmar has been involved in more than 25 high profile offshore wind projects supplying over 3,000 systems since its entry into the market. The company recently expanded its UK presence by opening new state-of-the-art testing and engineering facilities at its County Durham headquarters.
The Eneco Luchterduinen project is a joint venture between Eneco and Mitsubishi Corporation consisting of 43 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 129MW. The wind farm will generate enough power for nearly 150,000 Dutch households.
