EnviTec Biogas Builds First Biogas Plant in the Philippines

EnviTec Biogas is making its mark in the Philippines with the signing of a contract with First Quezon Biogas Corporation (FQBC). The 1.4 MW biogas plant belongs to an agricultural cooperative of 14 poultry farmers in Candelaria, Quezon Province. It is scheduled to begin feeding electricity into the local grid of Meralco, the largest electricity provider in the Southeast Asian archipelago, in June 2026.

“This contract is a major breakthrough. It marks the completion of our first reference plant in the Republic of the Philippines. We can now demonstrate our special capabilities in the important local poultry manure market and are already seeing interest in follow-up projects,” explains Thomas Wagner, Head of the EnviTec Representative Office for Southeast Asia in Jakarta.

The project began in 2018 but was interrupted due to a change in investors. The contract has now been signed with the new investor group. The successful resumption of construction proves that patience and a consistent, long-term presence in the region ultimately pay off.

Two digesters, each with a capacity of 5250 m³, the biogas engine including transformer, as well as a drive-over silo, digestate lagoon, and receiving hall for poultry manure are already in place on site.

"We have already examined the existing infrastructure and can now seamlessly continue the work that was interrupted at the time – proof of the sustainability and quality of our work. In the first quarter of 2026, we will then begin installing the digester equipment, roofs, pumps, digestate treatment system, and plant controls," adds Wagner.

The plant, which will be powered by poultry manure from the customer's 4.5 million chickens and rice straw silage, is intended to produce not only green electricity but also high-quality biofertilizer.

"This creates a true win-win situation for us as operators and for the environment," explains Albert Alquiros, a member of FQBC's management team. In addition to the sustainable disposal of poultry manure in accordance with legal regulations, the environmental impact will be minimized through state-of-the-art odor control technology, and local households will be supplied with free and, above all, renewable electricity.

“This facility not only ensures sustainable waste management for us as poultry farmers, but also feeds renewable energy directly into the national power grid,” says Sammy De Jesus, President of FQBC. Expansion plans are already being discussed. “Future expansion phases could include increasing the current capacity and transferring the model to other regions of the country,” summarizes Wagner.
