Manchester Science Park-based UrbanChain will supply Believ’s expanding public charging network - set to deliver at least 30,000 charge points nationwide - with renewable energy that is local, transparent and directly matched to certified generators through UrbanChain’s private energy market model.

The partnership with Believ is UrbanChain’s first with a national EV charge point operator.

“This partnership goes beyond energy supply” said Charlie Parry, Chief Development Officer at UrbanChain, which doubled in size again this quarter and continues to scale rapidly. “It’s about building local clean energy ecosystems - linking renewable generation to charging infrastructure, supporting social housing and schools, and empowering councils to deliver on their Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) and net zero goals. Believ represents the scale and purpose of what the UK’s net zero transition should look like - practical, fair and rooted in community benefit. We’re proud to be powering that mission with traceable clean energy, helping to create local markets that deliver cleaner air and more affordable power.”

Backed by £300 million in investment from Liberty Global, Zouk Capital (the manager of the UK Government-anchored Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund), and leading infrastructure banks including Santander, ABN Amro, NatWest, and MUFG, Believ is focused on providing on-street charging solutions in residential areas, making it easier for drivers without private parking to switch to electric vehicles.

A substantial portion of funding is also being directed towards rapid and ultra-rapid charging hubs, as well as improving access in rural and underserved communities, ensuring the transition away from petrol and diesel leaves no one behind.

“As we scale our network to tens of thousands of public charge points, it’s vital that we do so responsibly - with energy that’s genuinely renewable and traceable” added Guy Bartlett, CEO of Believ. “UrbanChain’s technology gives us that transparency and helps us demonstrate that every Believ charge contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable energy system.”
