This project will mean that small scale hydro which have been vastly under utilized in the region thus far will receive much more attention. There are significant opportunities in the region at the current moment with it being estimated that there are over 36 GW of hydro power sources which are untapped.
The banks which will cooperate on the matter are the World Bank’s Global Environment facility, the UN’s Development Programme , and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration. The Central American Bank for Economic Integration is already present in the region backing different forms of renewables with some $514 million USD.
