Contact Energy moves forward with New Zealand deals

The geothermal power company has again made a significant step forward in the approval process for a new plant at Te Mihi in New Zealand.

The plant will provide power to over 200,000 households and generate 225 MW. This plant will also mean a further step along the way of generating 90 percent of New Zealand’s power from renewable resources by 2025. The plant is expected to come on stream by 2011, in addition there are plans for a second plant at Tauhara stream field. About $1 billion NZD will be the development costs for both projects.

According to David Baldwin "Contact's Te Mihi power station will have a very important role to play in meeting that demand with renewable, climate friendly geothermal power."
