Thus far seven of these mini hydro stations have been constructed in the east of the country. These power stations range from 8 to 700 kilowatts. According to the minster; "Another 1,4 megawatt power station is being installed at Manyuchi Dam in Mwenezi District in Masvingo," "There has been no meaningful investment in generation since 1987 when Hwange Power Station Stage 11 was commissioned.“
Zimbabwe which has increasingly fewer and fewer foreign currency reserves is finding it very difficult to keep up with demand for repair and maintenance of both the electrical generation and grid components. To further compound the problem only 65% of the countries energy needs are met using domestic sources, the rest (35%) must be imported.
