Mazda Motor Corporation has announced yesterday that it delivered one dual-fueled RX-8 Hydrogen RE vehicle to the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI). The vehicle which can run on either hydrogen or conventional gasoline will be used by JARI to test social needs of an automobile society and funnel and how Mazda’s new hydrogen car fits.
The main focus of the tests which will be conducted with the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization is to establish ideas for international standards and gain a better understanding of safety of hydrogen fueled cars.
The Mazda RX-8 Hydrogen RE has a rotary engine with a dual-fuel system that allows the driver to select either gasoline or hydrogen fuel with the flick of a switch. Mazda has long been the leader in the field of rotary engines. The car has already been extensively tested in a variety of operating environments. Like the BMW 7 hydrogen series , Mazda has also tried to gain publicity by offering the vehicles to government and private enterprise to showcase it’s capabilities.
