The solar park has a planned capacity of 237.58 MWp, and when completed will be one of the largest clean power generating projects in Bulgaria and the region. The solar park is expected to be fully operational in early 2025. In its next phase, the project will include wind turbines with a capacity of over 250 MW and batteries with a capacity of 250 MW/500 MWh.

The project will be realized by Solarpro Holding, a multitechnology leader in the construction and operation of scalable renewable energy generating projects, with long experience in the photovoltaic sector in Europe.

The solar part of the project alone could generate enough clean electricity to cover the annual consumption of 100,000 households. The project in Tenevo is a joint investment of the Danish company Eurowind Energy and the Vienna-based Renalfa IPP through their joint venture EURA IPP.

“We are happy that we launched this large renewable energy project in Bulgaria. This will be the first hybrid power generating facility of its kind in the country and one of the biggest and most complex clean energy projects in southeast Europe,” Elena Markova, Executive Director of EURA IPP, said.

“This project demonstrates that renewable energy has a leading role in the energy transformation of coal mining regions and will provide a strong boost for green transition in Bulgaria,"

Eurowind Energy is a Danish company, founded in 2006 with decades of experience from a project on a family farm. Today, Eurowind Energy A/S designs, builds and operates energy capacities in 15 European countries and in the United States of America.

The company has built over 2.5 GW of wind energy projects in Europe and already owns a small solar park in Bulgaria. Eurowind Energy is among the pioneers in Europe, investing in large-scale projects for the production of green hydrogen (PtX).

Renalfa IPP is a Vienna-based clean energy and e-mobility investment group. It is a joint venture of the Vienna-based Renalfa Solarpro Group GmbH and the French infrastructure fund manager RGreen Invest. The group is also one of the main investors in the leading European EV car-sharing platform Spark.

Renalfa IPP owns renewable energy generating facilities with an overall capacity of over 450 MW in Bulgaria, Hungary, the Republic of North Macedonia and Romania. An additional more than 1 GW are in an advanced stage of development and construction.
