T-Solar was the first Spanish company to connect a solar energy plant to the Indian grid and the new plant is the second such plant to be built by the company in India. Elsewhere, T-Solar has developed and managed over 284MW worth of solar in countries all over the world including Spain, Italy, India, Peru, the USA and Puerto Rico. The Indian plant is part of the company’s strategic growth plan for the country.
The plant, which is located at Nayaka in Gujarat, has an installed capacity of 12.3MWp and will generate 19.4GWh per year helping India’s national grid to meet a demand for electricity that is increasing as fast as the economy is growing. T-Solar’s first solar plant in the country is located at Osiyan in Rajasthan where it has been operational since October 2011 providing the grid with 8.5GWh per year. This plant was one of the first to come on line under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM).
The company’s second plant brings its total investment in India to €34m. The two plants generate enough power to supply over 49,000 people.
The Indian solar market has enormous future potential with projected energy requirements together with its economic growth making it a prime location for solar PV investment, something that will bring substantial benefits to the country because of the scalability, rapid installation and simplicity of the technology.
