Limes awarded environmental approval for 150 MW BESS Ganso project in Chile

Limes Renewable Energy, a specialist in the development of solar, wind and battery energy storage, has successfully secured the environmental permit for its 150 MW BESS Ganso project in Chile’s Valparaíso Region.

Between November 2025 and April 2026, Limes received three environmental approvals in Chile for Pradera Larga (84 MWp of Solar PV + 90 MW BESS), BESS Huañil (200 MW), and BESS Ganso (150 MW).

Building on an approach consolidated over many years in Italy, Limes’ home market, this milestone marks a key step in Limes’ international expansion and its contribution to Chile’s long-term energy transition, fully aligned with Limes’ vision to become an Independent Power Producer (IPP), focusing on strategic partnerships as projects approach RTB stage.

“Three environmental approvals in Chile in under five months – Pradera Larga, BESS Huañil, and now BESS Ganso – marks a significant milestone for us” said Martin Libra, Limes Head of LATAM. “The Consulta de Pertinencia process was the right route for this project, reinforcing our approach in Chile. As our pipeline continues to mature and our first projects near ready-to-build status, Limes is strongly positioned in the region and focused on advancing strategic partnerships. We are actively assessing new opportunities across Latin America in the coming months, alongside strategic partners.”

In April 2026, the project obtained the environmental permit through a fast-track evaluation process known as ''Consulta de Pertinencia''. Available to projects that demonstrate minimal environmental impact, this process allows significant reduction in development timeline and costs.

The project is located in a strategically important area of Central Chile, the largest energy demand centre in the country and diverse pool of industrial clients creating PPA opportunities.

Highly relevant is the growing data centre presence in the Valparaíso – Santiago corridor, the same area where BESS Ganso is located.

Data centre operators emerged in recent years as a natural PPA counterparty, due to the intensive 27/4 renewable power supply needs.

Limes' Chilean pipeline is maturing, with the first projects reaching ready-to-build status in Q4 2026.

The Chilean pipeline continues to expand and now includes approximately 180 MWp of solar PV and 620 MW of BESS, to further strengthen the country’s storage backbone.

Building on its strong track record in Italy, Limes is positioning Chile as a key market for its long-term growth strategy and wider expansion across Latin America.

New project opportunities are being evaluated to grow the existing pipeline in the second half of 2026.

The Chilean energy market keeps advancing towards full decarbonisation. BESS technology, a key element allowing further renewable penetration, continues to gain market traction.

Limes is pursuing strategic partnerships across the value chain as it advances towards the transition towards an IPP business model.

The company is also developing projects in Italy, Sweden, the US, Chile, Vietnam and Indonesia, and has accumulated ~6 GW of development pipeline globally.
