The wind farm will be commissioned in 2017 and will have a total capacity of 258 MW. It is the first of three projects for which the company was awarded Final Investment Decision Enabling Contracts (Contract for Difference) by the UK government in April 2014. Under the Contract for Difference, DONG Energy will receive a fixed price per MWh of electricity for the first 15 years of operation after which the company will receive the market price.
“I am very pleased that with this final investment decision we can now begin the construction of Burbo Bank Extension which will supply green power to approximately 180,000 UK households” said Samuel Leupold, Executive Vice President in DONG Energy. “The construction and operation of this wind farm will support green growth and employment in the UK.”
Mr Leupold added that the decision to construct Burbo Bank Extension using an 8 MW wind turbine is a significant step towards reducing the cost of electricity on future projects.
