Invenergy Wind LLC has secured 800 MW of wind turbines for 2009 through GE Wind. The machines will be used in North America and Europe.
The company has increased its order from 600 MW for 2007 and 700 MW for 2008, which totals (including 2009's) an impressive 2,100 MW. That amount could almost double the company's current portfolio of 1.2 GW also in Europe and America.
This piece of news proves that the wind power industry is being colonized by a few players with very large portfolios, contrary to the solar PV industry, for example, where many small players operate. Such large wind orders may mean lower prices that, in the short term, may make wind power competitive with fossil fules. When will this happen? We will keep you posted...
