The facility develops two complementary lines of activity . Firstly, a composting plant with a capacity for 27,000 tons of organic waste per year , equipped with two separate treatment lines: one for sewage sludge suitable for agricultural application in accordance with Royal Decree 1310/1990, and another for waste intended for the manufacture of fertilizers according to Regulation (EU) 2019/1009.

Secondly, a processing platform for forestry and agricultural waste with a capacity of 15,000 tons per year for energy recovery . This system classifies and shreds the material to produce natural solid fuels—wood chips and pellets—for industrial boilers and heating networks, providing an efficient and sustainable energy solution.

This project represents a significant step forward for the environment and economic development of Aragon. By transforming what was previously discarded into new resources, it promotes a truly sustainable cycle that generates local employment and strengthens the region's competitiveness. In this way, it reduces dependence on traditional fossil fuels and enables the region's industry and heating systems to operate much more cleanly. Ultimately, this initiative fosters the creation of skilled jobs in emerging sectors, promotes local development, attracts investment, and positions Aragon as a leader in environmental innovation.

"This facility fully reflects Veolia’s GreenUp strategy, which is based on accelerating the ecological transformation through integrated water, energy, and waste solutions. We are committed to models capable of generating value from local resources, while simultaneously promoting the circular economy and the decarbonization of the region," says Miguel Ruiz-Gálvez, director of Veolia Biomass.

The new infrastructure has been supported by public funding for sustainable investments from the European Union and the Department of the Presidency, Economy and Justice of the Government of Aragon. This subsidy has covered 40% of the cost of the equipment for the fertilizer and biomass refining process, reinforcing Veolia's commitment to the region and its environmental and economic development.
