The Sion has a range of 250 kilometres (155 miles) and is expected to cost less than 16,000 euros ($18,038, £13,546). The vehicle, which has been launched via the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, can also act as an energy storage device through bidirectional charging with stored energy being able to be used by all common electronic devices.

Through a subsequent pre-sale in 2017 Sono Motors is hoping to gather enough financial support for serial production of Sion in cooperation with automotive manufacturers and suppliers. The five-door compact van is a purely electric car with a battery capacity of 30 kWh and a fast-charge performance of up to 43 kW. The major innovation on the vehicle is a self-charging system called viSono, which charges the Sion through solar cells covering a surface area of 7.5 square meters. These cells generate enough electricity to give the Sion an additional 30 kilometres in one day.

The Sion is a self-charging electric car that can not only be charged with electricity, but can also provide electricity at any time, functioning as mobile power storage. Using a household plug, it is possible for current consumption by all common electronic devices with up to 2,000 watts. A maintenance system called reSono guarantees favourable maintenance costs due to inexpensive spare parts.

There are two variations of the Sion with different ranges. The Extender has a 250 km range with a target price of 16,000 euros. The Urban has a somewhat smaller range of 120 km with a target price of 12,000 euros. The vehicle will become available in 2018.
