The Start-Up Reshaping The Way Australian EV Owners Drive

Ion Blue is an environmental preservation-focused subscription service allowing electric vehicle owners to power their cars using renewable energy, displacing demand for fossil fuels and creating a greener world. An industry first, IonBlue launched online in Australia on February 15 with plans to expand globally in the latter stages of 2022.

Australia’s electric vehicle industry is witnessing a 200% increase inuptake, with the number of new electric vehicles tripling off the back of incentives introduced by state governments. The number of EV sales in Australia reached 24,078 in 2021, and this increased uptake calls for an examination of the industry and the environmental impact.

Electric vehicles are widely known to be the environmentally responsible choice, but disappointingly often, these vehicles are powered by ultimately planet-polluting electricity sources. With an eye to a sustainable future in which the world is powered by renewable electricity, Ion Blue exists to help forward-thinking EV owners drive in a way that aligns with their environmental conscience.

Mathew Gaal, Ion-Blue Founder shares, “Our goal is to spread awareness regarding how we currently use electric vehicles, and how we can improve this use to better support the renewable energy industry. Although EVs are a great technological advancement, generally, their environmental footprint, taking into account the vehicles end-to-end lifecycle and
charging mechanisms, is not significantly better than that of a traditional combustion engine vehicle. We want to change that."

“Our environmental subscription service is easy to use, low effort and low cost. Something that can support the renewable energy industry while also educating the public. We are all for people buying electric vehicles, we just want to ensure that they are being used in the most environmentally friendly way possible,” adds Gaal.

The new subscription service calculates the annual electricity output for individual EV owners and offsets this electricity consumption by matching and superseding the amount of energy consumed, using renewable energy sources only. This method not only allows EV owners to be driving with zero carbon footprint, but it also supports the growing renewable energy sector,
ultimately creating a greener world.

Ion Blue has been created by a team of business strategists and technology experts who believe in proactively co-creating sustainable industries. Noticing the misalignment between the intention of EV owners and their environmental impact, Gaal and his team at IonBlue have created an organization that bridges the gap, allowing EV owners to travel without the
carbon footprint generated by fossil fuel-based energy providers.

In partnership with environmental advisor Ndevr, the IonBlue team have crafted an industry-leading subscription service: designed to create a world in which fossil fuels are a thing of the past.

When explaining their impact and mission, the Ion Blue team explains, “Because of Australia’s dependence on fossil fuels to power our electricity system, EVs are still significant contributors to climate change from the indirect carbon emissions their energy demand creates. A large EV passenger car in Australia will create as much as 60% of the carbon emissions of a similar-sized vehicle with a combustion engine. Ion Blue is here to change that.”
