ASIF celebrates its Ordinary General Assembly in a crucial moment for the industry

Spain's Asociación de la Industria Fotovoltaica (ASIF, Solar PhotoVoltaic Industry Associated) held its Ordinary General Assembly last week. The current momentum is considered crucial by industry players after the approval of the new Building Technical Code (Código Técnico de la Edificación) last March 17th and the upcoming upgrade of the 436/2004 Royal Decree, referred to tariff methodologies. La Assembly, which took place on the 28th of March, stated its commitment to a fast and sustainable development of this technology in Spain in order to meet the goals of Spain's renewable energy Plan. The Assembly identified a reasonable financial profitability and simple bureaucracy as essential for the success of the PV industry.

The Assembly “trusts the entrant Management team to define, within Spain's current controversial energy panorama, the best strategy allowing the leadership of our industry”. The meeting gathered representatives from almost half of ASIF's 180 member companies, namely manufacturers, distributors, installers, engineering firms, research centers, etc.

During the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Carlos López Jimeno, Madrid's General Director of Industry, Energy and Mining, called for greater care on the architectural integration of panels both on buildings and on-ground facilities. Likewise, Mr. Cayetano Hernández, IDAE's Renewable Energy Director, released the latest official figures on the situation of the PV industry in Spain.

The Assembly elected a new Management team and ratified Mr Javier Anta as the Association's Director. ASIF groupes all the domestic manufacturers of electrical solar generators (PV cells and modules), all the domestic inversor manufacturers and most of the component manufacturers, engineering firmst and installers dedicated solely or mainly to PV solar energy, or also if they consider it a strategic activity in their portfolios. Around 85% of the PV solar activities carried out in Spain is estimated to be done by ASIF members (calculated by dividing ASIF members' revenues by the industry's total sales volume).
