The “Castets” project is ready-to-build and has been developed in close cooperation with the municipality of Castets and the local community of Côte Landes Nature since 2019. Construction will start in September 2026. Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to meet the annual consumption of approximately 3,800 households and will avoid emitting around 6,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year. Particular attention was given to environmentally sensitive areas, reducing the project’s overall footprint where possible, and incorporating biodiversity enhancements and compensatory measures to strengthen local integration and maximise environmental benefits.

In line with its commitment to local stakeholders’ engagement, BayWa r.e. launched a crowdfunding campaign for the Castets project through the Lendosphere platform in 2022. The initiative attracted 67 lenders and raised a total of 65,000 euros enabling local citizens to participate directly in the energy transition.

Furthermore, BayWa r.e. will remain involved in the project as EPC contractor and operations service provider. This continuity will ensure the long-term technical management of the installation while maintaining the project's strong local roots through the involvement of public and regional stakeholders.

“The Castets project demonstrates our ability to develop renewable energy solutions that balance local needs, environmental considerations and long-term value creation” said Benoît Roux, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. France.

“By transferring the project to Avergies and Terra Energies, we are enabling its delivery alongside strong regional partners that share our commitment to advancing renewable energy in France” added Dr. Daniel Gäfke, COO of BayWa r.e. “At BayWa r.e., we see local partnerships as a key factor in delivering successful renewable energy projects. This transaction demonstrates how experienced developers, regional investors and public stakeholders can work together to bring clean energy projects to fruition while ensuring that the benefits remain closely connected to the communities they serve.”
