Nanosolar starts selling its panels

 

Nanosolar, a Silicon Valley start-up, has begung shipping its cutting-edge solar panels. This is just another step towards a more competitive solar PV industry.

The Californian company, which is backed by Google's cofounders, has developed an innovative system to produce panels by printing PV material on aluminum, which is expected to reduce costs of conventional panels by more than 80%. The estimated cost of production is actually at an estimated $1 per watt, compared to current prices above $2 per watt.
 
The first shipment of Nanosolar is being shipped to Germany for a one-megawatt plant developed by Beck Energy. Projects like this will undoubtedly ensure that banks are able to start financing this type of innovative technology, which could mean that the market is flooded with this new low-cost technology in the coming years.
