New plant by Gamesa Solar after 2006 take off

The solar division of the wind power giant saw its take off last year with revenues of 127 m euros and EBITDA of16 m euros, thus meeting its objectives at 100%, according to Guillermo Ulacia, CEO and President of the basque firm. They will now open a solar PV module manufacturing plant in Seville.

"We have sealed deals worth 28.4 MW, some 373 MW above 2005's levels" said Mr Ulacia. From this capacity, 17 MW are own production. The solar business represents today around 5% of Gamesa's total revenues.

These positive results support Gamesa's plan for building a solar module manufacturing plant in Southern Spain (Aznalcóllar, Seville), with a production capacity of 18 MW. The plant will cost 6.7 m euros.

Indeed, Gamesa developed in this little town Andalusia's biggest solar plant, at 3.5 MW, which was connected to the grid just some weeks ago. Gamesa used its own modules for this project, which is currently being expanded under a share ownership with Idesa, a Spanish promoter.
