More than 8,300 facilities are now installed in Spain, which has become Europe's second largest market only after Germany. The Mediterranean country is fourth in the global ranking now.
ASIF believes that the Spanish PV industry has the potential to cover around 10% of the global market. Besides, according to industry analysis, 2007 will see an increase in manufacturing capabilities, including additional silicon factories, which will enable further growth.
As concerns production costs, ASIF thinks that an average drop of 5% is being achieved annually, thanks to greater efficiency in production methods and the Research and Development efforts carried out in the last years.
All these factors seem to indicate that the goals set for the solar industry in Spain's renewable energy plan (PER), at 400 MW by 2010, will be met two years before the expected date. ASIF estimates that next year Spain will have done its solar homework.
