According to Dong Energy, the Anholt wind farm will have a capacity of 400 MW and will be able to supply carbon-free power equivalent to the annual power consumption of more than 400,000 Danish households, or 4% of Denmark's power consumption.
“Building the Anholt offshore wind farm is an important milestone in the expansion of green energy production in Denmark. Dong Energy is therefore happy to build Denmark’s next large wind farm,” said Anders Eldrup, CEO of Dong Energy.
Siemens Wind Power will deliver the turbines for the wind farm, each with a capacity of 3.6 MW, thereby helping to bring Dong Energy closer to the company’s vision of “supplying energy without carbon dioxide”.
According to the tender specifications, the wind farm must supply its first power by the end of 2012, and the entire wind farm must be commissioned by the end of 2013. Any delays will result in a reduced tariff and a penalty if all turbines are not connected to the grid by 31 December 2013 at the latest.
Dong Energy has built half of the largest offshore wind farms in the world, making it market leader in the field. In 2009, Dong Energy built the world's largest offshore wind farm, Horns Rev 2, which has a capacity of 209 MW and is situated in the Danish sector of the North Sea. In the UK, the company has just commissioned the Gunfleets Sands 1+2 wind farm, and is currently involved in three more offshore wind farm projects in the British Isles.
