Stranoch Wind Farm Hits Key Milestone As Turbine Delivery Begins

In a major milestone in the construction of Stranoch wind farm in Dumfries and Galloway, key turbine parts, including blades and tower sections, have started being delivered to the EDF power solutions UK site this week.

The Vestas components, transported under police escort by specialist contractor Colletts, will leave the Port of Cairnryan and make their way to Stranoch wind farm in scheduled convoys over the coming weeks and months.

To minimize disruption, the convoys will typically run twice daily. Police Scotland and the project's transport team will work to maintain traffic flow, with efforts made to allow cars to pass where possible.

Residents and road users are being advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes if possible. EDF power solutions UK has been in touch regularly with local residents who may be affected by the deliveries, which will take place until early December.

Stranoch wind farm is a 102MW, 20-turbine wind farm, being built near New Luce in Dumfries and Galloway. Construction began in May 2024 and is due to continue until early 2027.

Earlier this year EDF power solutions UK launched a £20,000 annual sponsorship fund with a number of local community groups benefiting so far. Once the wind farm is operational this will be funded by a community benefit fund, worth around £510,000 per annum to local communities.

The first phase of deliveries has now taken place and will continue during weeks until December. Local residents are being updated through email and a text messaging service.

All dates remain subject to change, depending on police guidance and operational requirements and weather permitting. Updates will be provided at the Stranoch wind farm webpage .

Yusuf Patel, Chief Technical Officer at EDF power solutions UK said, “This is a fantastic milestone in the construction of Stranoch wind farm and we are pleased to be working closely with Vestas and Police Scotland in safely delivering the components to the site over the coming months.

“We would like to thank residents and road users for their patience as we begin this critical stage of construction and we endeavor to keep them updated to minimize disruption as far as possible."
