Iter plans 15 and 25 MW PV plants in the Canary Islands

Spain's Instituto Tecnológico de Energías Renovables (ITER, Renewable Energy Technological Institute), a public body located in the Canary Islands, has announced that it is currently studying the possibility of promoting a 15-megawatt solar orchad. The public response has been so positive that there are rumours of a second larger plant of 25 MW. The ITER, which will be the "executor, manager and maintainer" of the project, according to their statement, has open the proposal to prospective investors. The response "has passed the best expectations" according to the ITER.

The location chosen is in the Granadilla Industrial Estate, nearby the ITER headquarters. Due to the positive response by the investors, the ITER is planning another project in the same area; the capacity for this project would be greater, though, at 25 megawatts. In both cases, the ITER will manage the facility and will receive 15% of the electricity sale revenues as a compensation for it.

"The facilities have been offered to investors interested in very favorable profitability conditions, due to the new rates established by the Royal Decree for sale of PV solar energy for facilities with a capacity below 100 kW", said the ITER representatives in a press release.

The institute will sell shares at 5.3 euros per watt installed. They forecast an annual return between 8% and 10%. This calculation is based on the climate conditions, with an average of 1,500 solar hours each year.
