The coal industry invests 40 million in renewables

Dutch renewable energy company Ecostream has announced a 40m contract with Alto Bierzo, a coal mining company, for the supply and installation of PV equipment. The contract was signed wit Energías Renovables del Bierzo (ERBI), a subsidiary of the mining company. Ecostream, a supplier and installer of solar thermal and PV equipment is present in Spain with offices in Madrid, Barcelona and, in the future in other cities, for whom the contract represents a big support for strengthening its position in the market. The equipment will be installed in solar projects in Seville, Badajoz and Ciudad Real.

"A special element of this project consists of the implementation of Movers, a high-tech solar tracking system" said Mr Alfredo Laiz, Ecostream's Chairman. Each project has many 100 kW systems, the maximum capacity that receives the maximum price paid under the current RD 436/2004 legislation. Ecostream expects to be able to connect these plants between 2006 and 2007.

"With this project, Ecostream, which manufactures its own cells and panels, has become one of Spain's most important companies in the turnkey solar project market" stated Mr Laiz.

Ecostream is part of the Econcern group, a holding made up by Ecofys, Ecostream, Evelop and Ecoventures. Econcern provides projects, products and servicies aiming to promote "a sustainable energy supply for everybody". More than 300 professionals work for Econcern in Holland, Germany, the UK, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Italy and Switzerland.
