SSE’s plans for the facility are closer to fruition following the completion of crucial contracts by Harper Macleod LLP
Project for Scotland’s first offshore wind testing centre takes major step forward

The agreements provide SSE with the rights to use the site, at Hunterston in North Ayrshire, along with various partners such as Scottish Enterprise. The project is an extension to SSE’s Glasgow-based Centre of Engineering Excellence for Renewable Energy and will enable them to work in partnership with leading turbine suppliers.

Over the next five years Hunterston will be utilised to develop and test up to three prototypes for the next generation of offshore wind turbines.

“We are delighted to have been involved in this amazing project and to assist it taking another step forward” said Pamela Todd, Partner at Harper Macleod. “Offshore wind is set to play a major role in all our energy futures and it great to see SSE working extremely hard to keep Scotland at the forefront of the renewables industry.”
