Demand dynamics in the major PV markets - Where do all the modules go?

What are the demand dynamics in the world’s major PV markets? When can an oversupply situation be expected? Can we expect a strong downward price trend for PV modules to already start in 2008? A new SolarPlaza conference will analyze this in Valencia (Spain) in September. The international solar expert conference “Demand Dynamics in the Major PV Markets: Where Do All the Modules Go?” will provide a platform to exchange crucial market information with leading experts, creating a real global market demand-side overview. This one-day event organised by SolarPlaza will take place on 2 September in Valencia (Spain), during the 23rd European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (1 to 4 September 2008).

On that day PV data analyst Professor Travis Bradford will present his outlook and elaborate on the industry's growth figures. Stephen O’Rourke from Deutsche Bank in New York will provide an analysis of the global PV market and industry. Other speakers at the conference will be leading PV experts from the world's major PV markets: Germany, the USA, Japan, Spain, Italy, Greece, Korea and France. They will discuss the current situation and forecast the growth in demand over the coming years in their markets.

The world's three largest markets – Germany, Spain and the USA – face uncertainties regarding their government subsidies. The German government is lowering its feed-in tariff by 9% this year, and in the years to follow. The current feed-in tariff in Spain ends in September this year and no new scheme has been presented so far. And the US market depends to a large extent on the government tax credit, which expires at the end of 2008. With elections coming up, nothing is certain for 2009. With these dynamics in the major markets, supply is almost certain to exceed demand in the short term.

The second global demand conference “Demand Dynamics in the Major PV Markets: Where Do All the Modules Go?” will be held at the prestigious Westin hotel in Valencia.
