Montealto to install more than 50 MW of solar PV in Spain

There will be eight plants totalling 51 MW. The facilities, to be developed by Montealto's subsidiary Energía Solar Fotovoltaica de Andalucía (ESF), will be located in Córdoba. They are expected to be completed before September, right before the feared change in the Spanish feed-in tariff.

The necessary investment will amount to 263 million euros. Once they are connected to the grid, the facilities will be able to power over 40,000 households. Additionally, they will prevent the emission into the atmosphere of just above 30,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases per year.

Almost 250 jobs will be created during construction, and 31 more people will be employed during the operation of the plant.

Two of the plants (Castillo de Alcolea, with 2.49 MW, and Alcolea Lancha, with 5.67 MW) will be located near the city of Córdoba. The remaining facilities will be scattered all over the province, with the largest plants, with 10 MW each, being built in Almodóvar del Río (10 MW) and Quintanilla (10 MW).

Some of the projects will use cutting-edge solar PV technology, with double axis trackers that are expected to increase production by 40%, according to Montealto.

The Spanish company plans to diversify its renewable energy investments into different technological areas, including solar PV, concentration solar power (CSP), biogas and wind power.
